Dr. Danny Martin

Danny Martin is Professor of Education and Mathematics at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He teaches content and methods courses in the undergraduate elementary education program as well as courses in the Ph.D. program in Curriculum and Instruction.
Dr. Martin’s research has focused primarily on understanding the salience of race and identity in African American learners’ mathematical experiences. Dr. Martin is author of the book Mathematics Success and Failure Among African Youth (2000, Erlbaum) and editor of Mathematics Teaching, Learning, and Liberation in the Lives of Black Children (2009, Routledge).
Prior to coming to UIC, he was Instructor and Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Contra Costa College for 14 years, serving as Chair for three years, and was a National Academy of Education/Spencer Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow from 1998-2000.

The iMATHination Conferences aim to provide rich, hands-on, thought provoking activities that integrate the best of what we know about instructional strategies and the way people learn. Our purpose is to raise the level of expertise and exposure to new possibilities for improving instructional delivery in math, science and technology in order to prepare our students to succeed in this global environment.

The iMATHination Conference is presented by the Chicago Teachers' Center. Founded in 1978, the Chicago Teachers' Center is an academic outreach unit of Northeastern Illinois University that develops collaborative partnerships that engage the entire community in helping students to succeed academically and socially.
